Plant and Animal Habitats Added to Prints

I’ve found a way to make a creative connection between my prints and their white mounts. I have experimented with gouache paint and it works beautifully.

Extending the habitat of the plants and animals was the first thing that came to my nature-oriented mind. For my Teal ducks, I have drawn Blue Iris plants. The green feathers of my teals correspond with some green parts of the plants, thus connecting plant and animal, both living in and near ponds.  For my Mandarin ducks, I have added brown cattails. Mandarin ducks look so extraordinary decorated, they don’t need much extra. Too many colours on the mount would distract; evenly brown cattails work best. Last, my Pumpkin print is decorated with hand painted, elegantly moving rambling vine. More will follow; I will show them here as well as on Etsy and Amazon Handmade.

The decorated mounts not only add and extend the habitat of the animals and plants, they also provide depth to the prints. Hand-painted mounts make my prints one of a kind.  I hope you’ll like them.
